#7 Bitmap Game
Description
For our mid-term project, we had to design a game. I was creating a digital app for street parking system in my MS1 class, and was inspired to create a game regarding driving experience in a hectic city. So studying the Frogger game's mechanics, I designed a traffic jam game that hopes to take the character safely home. With the design assets I created, I made a simple game with a simple goal. The setting of the game is: "After a tiring long day at work, you get stuck in a traffic jam. You aim to zap through to go home, rest and sip a cup of nice hot tea before going to bed."
Proposal: Traffic jam; aim is to get through and arrive home to rest.
Scenes: 1. Character finished work and gets in the car to go home. 2. There's a lot of traffic on the road. 3. Character wants to get hope safely and quickly. 4A. Character gets into an accident and cannot go home right away. 4B. Character gets home successfully with enough time to rest, drink tea, and sleep.
Reflection
For me, this assignment was extra tough. There were many times when I felt that I had to simplify the concept because of my technical limits. So I focused on the core needs of a game—protagonist, setting, aim, result, and outcomes. This way, I could focus on the visual of the game to help me tell the story better. If I had more time/skills to further develop the game, I'd like to add more scenes (initial, and final).
